The latest partisan salvo directed at President Bush is the puerile notion that he could have done more to prevent the catastrophic attacks of 9/11. On its face, this statement is true, but like most emanations from the Left, the disingenuousness is thick enough to be cut with a knife.
Had the profiling schemes suggested by intelligence gathering been put into place–namely to be wary of male Arabs traveling alone, who purchased one-way tickets with cash; and had some agency done something in response to strange reports coming out of flight schools, whereby various Arab students didn’t want to learn how to land, the skyline of lower Manhattan would still include the Twin Towers. And, it must be said, if this country actually had an immigration policy, 9/11 would have been just another Tuesday.
Of course, this is all nonsensical speculation. What rational commentator can argue, even for a moment, that had more draconian security measures been invoked, there would not have been a wailing from the liberal establishment, the likes of which has never been seen?
Destruction of social mores, expansion of heretofore unknown “rights”, and cancerous growth of the Federal leviathan, while diminishing personal responsibility in promotion of the Welfare State, is the aim of Liberalism today. Contrast that with the Liberalism of a scant few decades ago, that called for more personal responsibility, less government, and relied on man’s rationality and perfectibility.
Moreover, it was pervasive Liberalism that caused the breakdown in the FBI, CIA, NSA, and other intelligence and enforcement agencies in the first place. No group of ragtag terrorists would have dared attack our country, unless they thought it was weak and flabby. That the very creators of the weakness and flab can now complain about it, while staying the course of promoting their bad medicine, is nothing more than a sick joke.
Thus, the purveyors of this Liberalism are blinded to the effects of their miserable philosophy, and are determined to race to Hell at an ever-increasing speed.
The Church, as has become abundantly clear, in not immune from this Liberal poison. While closet homosexuals have been in the priesthood for hundreds of years, it is only quite recently that ACTIVE homosexuals have been recruited by the seminaries, and celibate heteros turned away. By the same token, it is difficult to read many documents of the Second Vatican Council, and not conclude that they were purposely written in a manner that would allow an excessively liberal interpretation.
As new scandals surface on virtually a daily basis, what we don’t see are any of the hierarchs taking true responsibility, other than in a surrealistic Nixonian “I take the responsibility, but not the blame” manner. What we also don’t see, and what we haven’t seen for a long time, is any hierarch bothering to proclaim Catholic moral theology.
Their minds numbed with the perversion of a liberal sentimental theology, they wouldn’t dream of making their flock feel the least bit uncomfortable about anything, other than being conservative.
Even now, idiot liberal theologians such as John Connolly, of Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, can complain about the malfeasance of Cardinal Roger Mahony, but argue against his resignation. After all, if Mahony resigned, he would be replaced by someone more conservative, and we can’t have that!
Thus, the purveyors of this Liberalism are blinded to the effects of their miserable philosophy, and are determined to race to Hell at an ever-increasing speed.
Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but underneath are ravenous wolves.
By their fruits you will know them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? Just so, every good tree bears good fruit, and a rotten tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a rotten tree bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire.
So by their fruits you will know them. (Matthew 7:15-20)
